Aurélien IMBERT
Aurélien Imbert's sculpture is a sculpture of discretion. Poised between furniture and objects of contemplation, his creations are designed to blend seamlessly into everyday use. Indeed, it is only over time that the full presence of his works is revealed.
A sculptor of assemblage, he combines metal, neon lights, and interwoven wood and plaster to produce hybrid objects, often compact and concentrated. As if the sculpture were digesting the furniture, or vice versa. The two are intimately intertwined, linked by a taste for detail and finish. This feeling is reinforced by the artist's use of color; the hues of varnished or painted wood are almost never contrasting, but rather nested, delineating spaces within other spaces.
Balancing external demands with the autonomy of the artwork, Aurélien Imbert works at the request of patrons. In doing so, he responds to existing demands while simultaneously creating new ones. His work engages with and takes a stand within the daily lives of those who live with his pieces. But while use may impose constraints, these constraints also shape the work. Aurélien Imbert's generosity lies precisely in this ability to offer more than just a function and a form; at the intersection of these two elements, he provides the means to transcend this relationship, allowing space for a sense of mystery and potential.
Aurélien will be in residence at the Châtelet library upstream of Rouen Impressionnée (April or May).
