Janaina Tschäpe is a German-Brazilian artist born in 1973 in Munich. For more than twenty years, she has created paintings, drawings, sculptures, videos and photographs inspired by nature, water and organic forms.
For the 6th edition of the festival, Janaina Tschäpe presents an exhibition of her paintings and drawings at the Aître Saint-Maclou.

Janaina Tschäpe lives and works in New York.
In her work, she often explores themes of aquatic, plant, and human life. She creates abstract and dreamlike landscapes where illusion and reality merge. Her compositions convey a sense of movement and express her inner emotions.
Her works layer numerous pieces created using various techniques such as watercolor, pastel, or colored pencil.
And what about Impressionism, then?
Impressionism is one of Janaina Tschäpe's great inspirations. As a child, she discovered the works of Claude Monet and pursued the impressionist spirit by favoring gestural and emotional drawing, which occupies a central place in her paintings.
In his Water Lilies series, Claude Monet takes his quest to capture the fleeting moment even further. He eliminates perspective and the horizon line to create an immersive, almost aquatic space, where the landscape conveys a purely emotional message.

Janaina Tschäpe draws inspiration from this. Her landscapes are abstract, never realistically depicted. They are recomposed from fluid forms, shifting colors, and free gestures. Water often occupies a central place: it becomes a symbol of passage, life, and metamorphosis.
