(Laura's gang)
Theatre of the Two Shores
Dancer and choreographer Gaëlle Bourges continues her exploration of art history, this time using as her backdrop one of the greatest scandals of the female nude: Édouard Manet's Olympia, painted in 1863. Presented at the 1865 Salon d'Automne, the painting sparked a wave of hatred and disgust towards the portrait of this young white woman, who was labeled dirty, vulgar, and ignoble. | On stage, four performers conduct an investigation. Beyond appearances, Manet's canvas reveals a completely different story, that of a symbolic revolution. Isn't that the very essence of a masterpiece?
