Embark on a family journey to discover Impressionism between Le Havre and Honfleur, and follow in the footsteps of the artists in these two cities so important to the movement. Explore the events of the Normandy Impressionist Festival, echoing the artistic movement that changed the course of art history. A work composed of 650,000 LEGO® pieces, a fog installation in the Jardin des Personnalités (Garden of Personalities), and two concert offerings are just a few examples of what awaits you on this trip!
Stage 1
Le Havre is where Monet painted Impression, Sunrise, the iconic work that gave its name to the Impressionist movement. Step inside the André Malraux Museum of Modern Art (MuMa), home to the second largest collection of Impressionist works in France.
At MuMa, discover Ai Weiwei – Water Liliesby Ai Weiwei, a monumental work composed of 650,000 LEGO® pieces, in direct resonance with Monet’s famous Water Lilies series.
Continue with the creative workshops offered as part of the Carton pixel — Impression XL and contribute to the development of a large-scale collective work echoing that of Ai Weiwei.
The MuMa also hosts the 25th edition of the Summer Theatre & Reading Encounters in Normandy, a highlight combining performance, reading and contemporary creation in a dialogue with impressionist aesthetics.
Stage 2
Head to Honfleur, the birthplace of Eugène Boudin, a precursor of Impressionism. At the Eugène-Boudin Museum, you can discover an exhibition entitled "Pink, Orange, Red Sun" by Julien des Monstiers.
Continue your journey to the Garden of Personalities, where you can immerse yourself inFujiko Nakaya's fog installation. This work, where water becomes the main material, is constantly transforming, like the light that Monet sought to capture in his paintings.
In Honfleur, also discover the Route de l'Hydrogen project led by H2NC. This proposal brings together the worlds of François Dufeil and Fujiko Nakaya, forging a link between contemporary creation and the challenges of energy transition in Normandy.
Stage 3
Near Honfleur, take a musical break by attending one of the two events on offer: Musiques sur l'eau, on July 23 in Quetteville, or Le Concert Impromptu – Monet en musique, on July 28 in Cormeilles.
