Impressionist and Historical Exhibitions

Whistler

L'effet papillon

05.24 — 09.22

Print
A dandy and magnetic artist, Whistler was the American cousin of Monet or Cézanne. By widening its Norman Impressionist focus, the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Rouen is embarking for the lands of America and exploring some of the facets of this major late 19th-century painter who had a lasting influence on European artists. Through a good thirty of his works as well as of other painters who soaked up his art, the exhibition invites us to discover his fascinating portraits, his nocturnal landscapes, his work on the imperceptible and the fleeting, his taste for Japonism or else the connection he kept up between music and painting. This exhibition explores the artist’s multiple facets and his oeuvre’s resonances.
