On the occasion of her exhibition La lumière dans les filets, presented until August 30, 2026 at the Saint-Nicolas church in Caen under the curatorship of Philippe Platel, Diana Scherer looks back on her artistic approach in a video made as part of the Impressions d'artistes.
Dutch artist Diana Scherer, based in Amsterdam, has been developing a unique practice for several years at the intersection of art, botany, and scientific research. Her work is based on a unique process of guiding root growth through specially designed structures to create patterns and compositions developed by the plants themselves. Inspired by textile and weaving techniques, this approach transforms plants into true creative collaborators and reveals the aesthetic potential of natural processes.
With *Light in the Nets*, the artist continues his exploration of the connections between living organisms, human know-how, and organic forms. The works presented highlight the extraordinary complexity of root systems, whose interlacing evokes both lace and the invisible networks that structure ecosystems. Between control and spontaneity, human intervention and the autonomy of living things, they invite us to take a fresh look at the growth mechanisms that shape our environment.
In this video, Diana Scherer presents the technique at the heart of her artistic practice and revisits the research that informs her work. She explores the complex relationships between control and freedom, culture and nature, while offering a sensitive reflection on our relationship to living things and the landscapes that surround us.
This exhibition is part of the focus on the Dutch art scene led by Normandie Impressionniste, with the support of the Mondriaan Fund and theEmbassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
