On the occasion of Meadow, a hanging garden, presented until September 27, 2026 at the Sainte-Croix-des-Pelletiers church in Rouen, under the curatorship of Philippe Platel, Lonneke Gordijn, co-founder of Studio DRIFT, looks back on the artistic approach of the collective in a video made as part of the Impressions of Artists.
Founded by Dutch artists Lonneke Gordijn and Ralph Nauta, Studio DRIFT has been developing a body of work for nearly twenty years that explores the relationships between nature, technology, and perception. Inspired by natural phenomena, the duo designs kinetic and luminous installations that reproduce the rhythms of life and invite the public to take a fresh look at their environment.
With Meadow, a suspended garden, Studio DRIFT imagines an inverted landscape where luminous mechanical flowers bloom above visitors in a slow and delicate choreography. Installed in the Sainte-Croix-des-Pelletiers church, exceptionally reopened to the public, this immersive work transforms the space into a hanging garden conducive to contemplation. By creating a dialogue between technological innovation and the poetry of nature, it offers a sensory experience that invites us to slow down and observe the subtle mechanisms of nature.
In this video, Lonneke Gordijn looks back at the inspirations that guided the creation of Meadow, a hanging garden , and explains how Studio DRIFT draws on the rhythms, behaviors, and movements of the natural world to design works that seem to have a life of their own.
This exhibition is presented in partnership with NEF / Réenchantons Ste-Croix and is part of the focus on the Dutch scene with the support of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
