Musical Walks in the Pays d'Auge – The Butterfly Hunt
At the Domaine de Bois Roger, the Les Promenades musicales du Pays d'Auge festival invites you to discover La Chasse aux Papillons (The Butterfly Hunt), a sensory experience blending music, biodiversity, and the imaginative world of the garden. Before the concert, a tour of the grounds is offered to explore the flora and fauna of this remarkable private estate, once owned by filmmaker Jacques Perrin, who filmed Winged Migration there. Since then, storks have returned to nest in this exceptional natural setting, which will be designated a protected area in 2026 by the French Office for Biodiversity.
Inspired by Berthe Morisot's painting The Butterfly Hunt (1874), the program celebrates the vivacity and carefree spirit of childhood in the garden. Performed by soprano Marielou Jacquard, a rising star of the French operatic scene, and accompanied by a string quartet and piano, it showcases works by female composers of the late 19th century, such as Louise Héritte-Viardot's Piano Quartet, in partnership with the Cité des Compositrices (City of Women Composers).
