Lionel Sabatté – The Memory of Silt, a tribute to Claude Monet

Blanche Hoschedé-Monet Museum

Lionel Sabatté, a singular figure on the contemporary scene and nominated for the 2025 Marcel Duchamp Prize, develops a body of work using recycled or organic materials marked by time. He works with wood, stone, metal, or found objects to create sculptures, installations, and portraits imbued with meaning and emotion.

An artist of impurity and residue, he collected the silt from the water lily pond during its dredging to create a pigment, which he then used in screen prints based on archival and contemporary photographs. He thus offers an organic immersion into the memorial and prospective world of Claude Monet's water and flower gardens at Giverny.
