Sarah Moon – From Nature

Sarah Moon – From Nature

Rouen Normandy Photographic Center, Pavilion of the Botanical Garden

The Photographic Centre is honoring Sarah Moon (1941), a major figure in the French photographic scene and a great explorer of gardens. Held across two venues, the exhibition presents a selection of works created over the past forty years, supplemented for this occasion by previously unseen photographs from recent shoots in Normandy.

By combining past and present, the exhibition showcases the full range of paths explored by the artist among the many gardens she has traversed throughout her career as a photographer. Here, her wide shots of vegetation bathed in silvery light unfold, there, her portraits of flowers and birds in vibrant colors. Borrowing its title from the realm of painting, the exhibition "From Nature" reveals an artist who has always embraced photography with freedom, placing perceived reality within a garden of her own invention, populated by wondrous birds, bathed in deep blacks and pigments.

Sarah Moon's artist residency in Normandy and the two-part exhibition are part of the Normandy Impressionist Festival, which has received support. The exhibition at the Jardin des Plantes was also made possible thanks to the support of the City of Rouen.
