Mika Ninagawa – Projection “Cathedral of Light” Wild Blossom
Mika Ninagawa (born in 1972) is one of the most renowned photographers and filmmakers in Asia.
At the heart of the 1990s "girlie photography" movement, she was among the first Japanese artists to celebrate the emancipation of young girls in a highly patriarchal world. Her "pop" style is an ode to nature, with saturated colors and incongruous image juxtapositions that have become her signature.
His approach to colour, landscape and nature fits perfectly within the spirit of Normandy Impressionist and the homage to Claude Monet around this theme of the garden, which has nourished the artist's work for many years.
His monumental projection on the facade of Rouen Cathedral, which Monet used for his experiments on atmospheric variations, follows as a guiding thread Monet's collection of Japanese prints, and creates a dialogue between the images taken by Mika Ninagawa in the garden at Giverny and more urban and pop images of Japanese culture.
