In the rain, paint, live, and dream
In Rouen, an exhibition of 150 works (Claude Monet, Pissarro, Caillebotte, Sérurier…) explores the representation of rain, from the end of the 18th century to contemporary climate issues, in dialogue with a scientific component at the Pavilion of Transitions.
At the Museum of Fine Arts, the exhibition is structured in three sections:
“The Artist Facing the Rain” traces the appearance of rain as a motif in landscape painting, the influence of Japanese prints, and the emergence of a meteorological awareness.
“Living with the Rain” delves into the 19th century, marked by umbrellas, raincoats, and the transformations of urban life.
Finally, “The City in the Rain” explores a modern vision in painting and photography, made up of reflections, light, and shifting silhouettes.
