Amel Brahim Djelloul and Zadig Hamroune – Woman in the garden, reading

The Franciscans

A concert-reading bringing together soprano Amel Brahim Djelloul and writer Zadig Hamroune: the meeting of a poet, an itinerant bard, and a princess, in the light of a setting sun.

Conceived like a Persian miniature or the title of a painting, this recital brings the lyrical voice and the spoken word into dialogue within the heart of an imaginary garden. It celebrates the quintessence of Arabic poetry in its transpoetic tradition, the one that circulated along caravan routes, traveling with musk and incense, but also with the texts of Aristotle and Plato and the thought of Averroes and Avicenna, all the way to the West.

From mythical gardens to dreamlike gardens — from Arcadia to the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, from Cirta to the Alhambra — this trans-oriental journey explores the garden as a symbolic space: a place of dialogue, memory and imagination.
