Laurent Proux – Ground Melody
Born in 1980 in Versailles, Laurent Proux lives and works in Paris. He graduated from the École des Beaux-Arts in Lyon and Hamburg. A painter and draftsman, he produces powerful and original imagery that explores the tensions between the human body and its environment, whether industrial or natural. His large-format paintings oscillate between realistic depictions of the working body within its context of production, and deconstructed bodies in languid poses with elongated limbs, clustered together in the midst of a lush nature that seems to devour them.
Between figuration and abstraction, his paintings blend blurred perspectives, bright and artificial colors, superimpositions of planes, the whole forming a work of strong composition, subtly political, rarely innocent.
For the Ground Melody exhibition, the artist continues his research through the production of paintings and engravings inspired by images gleaned in the gardens of the city of Caen and nourished by encounters with those who take care of them.
